Description
Considered one of the most important cultural and artistic events on the agenda of Chefchaouen, “Alegria” has aimed to be a popular and international event since its creation in 2004, contributing to the liveliness of the “blue pearl” while also serving the development of the province. It has successfully brought international attention to Chefchaouen, highlighting its cultural openness and its role as a human and economic bridge between Africa, the South Mediterranean, and the Hispanic-Latin-Iberian world. To promote the city, the organizers have, over the past editions, held concerts in the city’s oldest square, Hammams, and showcased handicrafts and local products at the famous Sayda Elhorra gallery at the Casbah Museum. Since its inception, the festival has featured the participation of a large number of Moroccan and foreign artists such as the king of Rai, Cheb Khaled, Faudel, Nouamane Lahlou, Samira Kadiri, Ramy Ayach, Saida Charaf, Rhoum El Bakkali, among others. With its Hispano-Moroccan focus and its openness to Latin American countries, Alegria has provided the public with the opportunity to admire fusion performances by artists of Andalusian and Flamenco music.
